Marcela Fiorillo was born in Argentina.

She graduated from the National Conservatory of Music in Buenos Aires. She is a Licentiate of the National University of Arts, Buenos Aires, Argentina.
She studied piano under Hadee Loustanau and Celia Bronstein, chamber music with Ljerko Spiller and Tomas Tichauer, and composition with Jacobo Ficher.
In the USA, she studied with Alfonso Montecino and Menahem Pressler at Bloomington University. She was also influenced by P. Sancan, R. Kerer, E.Wild and Carlo Bruno.
She was awarded scholarships by Fundación Cultural Coliseum, Fundación Leonor Hirsch de Von Buch, Camerata Bariloche, and Mozarteum Argentino.

Haydee Loustanau

Marcela’s career continues to involve extensive activity as performer, teacher and composer, both in her native country Argentina and abroad.
She has played in the most prominent Concert Halls of Argentina, such as Teatro Colón, as well as on radio and television.

Marcela has also performed in New York, Washington and Bloomington in USA, and has given master-classes and lectures at N.York University, Queens College, City University of New York, and BID Cultural Centre Washington.

In Europe, she has toured in Italy and France.

In China, Marcela performed with the Shanghai Broadcasting Symphony Orchestra and gave master-classes at the Shanghai and Beijing Conservatories of Music.

In Australia, critics have described Marcela as having “a consummate pianism of breathtaking technical assurance and deep expressive power” following concerts at the International Music, Canberra International Multicultural, ANU Ibero-American and Castlemaine festivals, as well as performances at the Perth Conservatory of Music, Tasmania and Queensland Concert Halls.
She has also performed for the ABC Sunday Live Radio Program, Kawai Concert Series and the Eighth Australasian Piano Pedagogy Conference as well as for the Fourth Western Australia Piano Pedagogy Conference.
She represented Australia in 2013 in the International Homage to Father Antonio Soler.
She was invited to represent Australia in 2016 as part of the International Homage to Enrique Granados.

Marcela received the Canberra Time’s Canberra Critics Circle Award 2007, for the “Best Concert of the Year” and for “The top Concert of the Year”. In 2008, she conducted the Australian Premiere of the Tango Opera María de Buenos Aires by Astor Piazzolla, for which she was also awarded the Canberra Critics Circle Award.
In 2013 she was commissioned by the Weereewa Festival to compose her Weereewa Suite which was premiered by her in March 2014 and also awarded the Canberra Critics Circle Award 2014.

She has premiered works by Argentine composers Ginastera, Piazzolla, López de la Rosa, Tauriello, Saenz, Kutnowski, Caamaño, Zorzi and García Morillo, in Australia, China, France, Italy and the USA.

Marcela Fiorillo’s CD recordings include: Argentine Music, Argentine Composers from XIX and XX centuries, O. Cyrulnik and M. Fiorillo Live- piano and guitar-; A Voyage Across South American Music; Tango; Piano Works by Argentine Composers vol. 1; The Greatness of Liszt and Beethoven; Passion - Five Centuries of Spanish Music; Piazzolla Anniversary; Weereewa Voices of the Land.

Marcela has taught extensively in Argentina and Australia. In Argentina, she was Professor of Piano at the National Conservatory and the Manuel de Falla Superior Conservatory of Music, Buenos Aires, until 2008.

Currently, she resides in Canberra where she works as a Performing Teaching Fellow at the ANU School of Music, as well as teaching piano privately and maintaining an active performance schedule.
